Deputy Commissioner Wendy Rodriguez Bio

Wendy Rodriguez was appointed Deputy Commissioner on August 20, 2021. In this capacity, Ms. Rodriguez oversees all the operational and administrative functions of the Department including strategic initiatives. Furthermore, she will assist the Commissioner with governmental interactions to include the Office of the Governor, the Texas Legislature, and other state agencies. 

Previously, Ms. Rodriguez was the agency’s Chief Operating Officer. The position encompassed the administrative activities of the Department, which included the human resource functions, accounting activities, purchasing, and facilities management and support services. The role was also responsible for coordinating activities for the Finance Commission and Internal Auditor.

Prior to this role, Ms. Rodriguez served as Director of Strategic Support and was responsible for overseeing the development of examination policy and procedures, examiner commissioning process, agency publications, training activities, consumer complaint activities, internal schools, communications, and several other agency support services.

Ms. Rodriguez began her career with the Department in June 1999 as an Assistant Examiner in Austin. In November 2000, she accepted a position as a Consumer Assistance Specialist, assisting consumers with a range of consumer protection issues relating to banking, a role she held until her promotion to Director of Strategic Support in December 2007.

Ms. Rodriguez graduated from Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University, with a BBA in Finance. She is also a member of the Finance & Economics Advisory Board for the university’s McCoy College of Business.
