Proof of Selective Service Registration

In compliance with civil service employment law (5 U.S.C. 33218) and State regulations, males born after December 31, 1959 who are at least 18 and under 26 years of age must provide proof of selective service registration or exemption to be eligible for employment with the Texas Department of Banking.

Male candidates for employment at the Department of Banking must complete a form, Proof of Selective Service System Registration, and provide proof of registration. If documents are not available, the Human Resources office may verify registration on-line.

Male candidates who appear for an interview will be required to complete the Proof of Selective Registration form. Candidates who are between the ages of 18 and 25 inclusive, and are not exempt or registered with the selective service are not eligible for employment with the Department. The requirement to register was reinstated in 1980 and applies to all men born on or after January1, 1960. The registration requirement does not apply to a person employed by a state agency before September 1, 1999, as long as the person’s employment by the agency (Department of Banking) is continuous.

The following persons are exempt from the requirement to register:

  • Females
  • Lawfully admitted non-immigrant aliens because they are residing in this county temporarily
  • Members of the Armed Forces on full-time active duty, including cadets and midshipmen at the United States service academies.

Applicants who meet the requirements for registration and are not registered may not be hired by the Department of Banking. An applicant that provides a false statement as to their registration status and is hired may be terminated from employment with the Department.
